Why Support the NRWA?

The NRWA spearheaded the clean-up of the Nashua River, from the 1960s when it was a pumpkin-colored, malodorous river unfit for any use, to its present condition brimming with life, offering clean water for businesses, residents and wildlife.

Today, the NRWA provides stewardship of the natural resources that make the Nashua River watershed an attractive place to live and work for the business community's employees and customers. We help local officials plan for growth in our rapidly developing area of north central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. We educate the public and private sectors about why a clean river, adequate water supply and responsible land use are good for business, good for communities, and good for the environment.

The NRWA serves businesses by:

  • Reducing the need for remedial measures to meet clean water standards
  • Increasing the investment value of riverfront properties and downtown revitalization projects
  • Providing information and technical assistance on environmental issues, workshops to address business concerns
  • Leveraging state and federal funds leading to reduced water and wastewater costs
  • Allowing greater access and impact in environmental policy making

The NRWA serves communities by:

  • Advocating and providing stewardship for rivers, lakes and water supplies for public use, recreation and enjoyment
  • Protecting water supplies for drinking and home use
  • Increasing public awareness of conservation issues
  • Preventing flooding by preserving upstream wetlands and floodplains
  • Providing assistance and technical support to municipal boards, schools, homeowners and land owners on a wide variety of environmental issues
