Nashua River Watershed Association Seeks Water Quality Monitoring Interns

The NRWA is seeking Water Quality Monitoring Interns to assist with our water quality monitoring program from spring through mid August. These are unpaid positions. In 2014, we mark our 22nd year of collecting data to characterize water quality problems in the Nashua River Watershed and to inform stakeholder efforts to reduce pollutant inputs and improve water quality. Water Quality Monitoring Interns will gather data on key water quality parameters and conduct stream assessments on the Nashua River and tributaries. Interns will work both in and out of the office in Groton, MA and must be able to work independently and as a team. This is a flex-time position that envisions a commitment of approximately 8-12 hours/week primarily Monday-Friday with occasional weekend work. Schedule may vary from week to week with consideration given to allow for summer employment. Primary duties include monitoring local water bodies, collecting water samples analysis of samples and data entry. (Training provided). Additional duties may include assisting with organizing the water chestnut hand pulls in Nashua and Pepperell.  Interns will learn about the scientific tools applied to monitor water quality and assess water bodies and the organizational skills needed to manage volunteer events.

Qualifications:

  • An interest in science, the environment and education is encouraged.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Google Maps preferred.
  • Having reliable transportation is required.

Exact starting date can be flexible depending on the candidate. These are unpaid positions. The NRWA is based in Groton, MA, but activities may take place in other watershed communities in north central MA and southern NH. The Nashua River Watershed Association is an equal opportunity employer.
