Birdology: What Makes a Bird a Bird with Author Sy Montgomery

Wednesday, April 16, 2014, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Groton Public Library, 99 Main Street in Groton

Celebrate birds with Sy Montgomery, author of Birdology: Adventures with a Pack of Hens, a Peck of Pigeons, Cantankerous Crows, Fierce Falcons, Hip Hop Parrots, Baby Hummingbirds, and One Murderously Big Living Dinosaur.  Birds are the wild animals we see every day, but we fail to appreciate who or what birds are. If we did, we would be awestruck--as is the author throughout these seven adventures exploring what makes a bird a bird. Sy works with a bird rehabilitator to raise orphaned baby hummingbirds, travels to the Australian tropics in search of a living dinosaur, rocks out with a dancing cockatoo and more, reawakening a sense of awe in the presence of creatures at once so breathtakingly similar to us, and yet so startlingly strange.

This free public presentation is co-sponsored by the Nashua River Watershed Association and the Groton Public Library; made possible by a grant from the Groton Trust Funds’ Lecture Fund.  Pre-registration is encouraged, online at www.gpl.org or call (978) 448-1167.
