Meet & Draw the Mustelids!  Local Wildlife and the Art of Nature Journaling

Wednesday, October 7, 2015, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Townsend Public Library, 12 Dudley Road in Townsend, MA

Our local weasel family members (mustelids) make great subjects for nature journals and are active in Townsend, and throughout the Nashua River watershed. The weasel family includes the river otter, fisher, mink, and short-tailed weasel, who can be seen in all seasons of the year.  At this free NRWA workshop, using skins, skulls, mounts and tracking materials, we will closely examine these sleek mammals and learn about their habitats, behaviors, and interactions. Participants will have an opportunity to create their own identification pages to include in a nature journal of their choosing. Samples of journals will be on display and a list of recommended locations for observation in Townsend and nearby communities will be handed out. Drawing paper and a variety of graphite & color pencils will be provided to those who do not bring their own equipment. This workshop, led by Stacey Chilcoat, NRWA River Classroom Director, is appropriate for ages 8 to adult.  It is free and open to the public, made possible in part by a grant from the Townsend Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Pre-registration is required; there is a maximum of 24 participants. Pre-register today.
