Nature Walk at Pepperell Springs in Pepperell, MA

Sunday, September 11, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to noon

Explore the beautiful Pepperell Springs Conservation Area in Pepperell, MA on this guided nature walk sponsored by the Pepperell Conservation Commission and the NRWA.  This free public walk will be led by Pat Swain Rice, recently retired Natural Community Ecologist for the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife’s Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program & Pepperell Conservation Commissioner, and Paula Terrasi, Pepperell’s Conservation Administrator.

We’ll investigate the diverse natural communities of plants and animals, some rare and endangered, that exist on the property including Hemlock Forests, areas of Northern Hardwoods, Red Oak – Sugar Maple Transition Forest, streamside alluvial forests, and more.  These defined plant communities provide habitat for specific species of wildlife, small and large.  Join us to learn more about the natural world in our own “backyard.”

Attendees should meet at the intersection of ‘dirt’ Chestnut Street and Oak Hill Street in Pepperell. There is parking at the intersection and a few cars can park a few hundred feet up Chestnut Street at a small parking area.  View a Google map for directions.  The GPS coordinates for the parking area are: Latitude 42.68533; Longitude -71.63252.

Free and open to all communities; pre-registration is not required, but appreciated for planning purposes.
