NRWA 2016 Annual Meeting

Keynote Speaker: Christopher A. Williams, Ph.D, Associate Professor of Geography, Clark University

Our supporters and the public are invited to join us at our 2016 Annual Meeting.  Christopher A. Williams, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Geography, Clark University, will speak on "Forests and Climate: Vulnerable Protectors of the Planetary Life Support System."  

At the Annual Meeting, NRWA will present its 2016 NRWA Conservation and Education Awards.  This year's Land and Water Conservation Award will be presented to Edward McNierney, a Groton resident.  Janet MacFarland, a teacher at Lura A. White Elementary School in Shirley, MA, will be honored with our Environmental Education Award. We will also be recognizing the generosity of NRWA Business Members, including Watershed Circle and River Club Awards.

The meeting begins with social time, a chance to mingle with NRWA Directors, NRWA staff, other members and friends. The evening includes dessert, the business meeting (election of officers and directors--see slate below), awards, and the keynote address. Ticket price is $20 per person; reservations required. As always, the business meeting and speaking portions of the evening can be attended at no charge; please RSVP for planning purposes. Reservations can be made by calling the NRWA at (978) 448-0299. About Christopher A. Williams, Ph.D.Professor Williams, trained as a land surface hydrologist and terrestrial ecosystem ecologist, investigates how earth's biosphere responds to natural and human disruptions such as severe drought events, bark beetle outbreaks, fires, harvesting, and land cover changes. His approach combines field, lab, and remote sensing data with process-based modeling. He has been interviewed on NPR, has provided articles to the New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, and CNBC, and is a frequent conference speaker and author of articles for professional journals. Chris earned a B.A. in Biology/Environmental Studies at Bucknell University, an M.S. in Watershed Science at Colorado State University, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science at Duke University. He joined the faculty in the Graduate School of Geography at Clark University in Fall 2008.  His research receives funding from NASA and the National Science Foundation.
