It is important to focus on educating school children and youth groups about protecting the natural resources of the watershed. People of all ages need to know more about how our ecosystem works, its healthy inter-relationships, and how to protect and restore them. - The 2020 Plan River Classroom Experience the Nashua River environment by canoe! In this stimulating day on the river, students enjoy wildlife field studies and geology/history discussions-all while discovering the joys of paddling. The expedition is led by certified guides from the NRWA and the canoe outfitter Nashoba Paddler of West Groton, which specializes in environmental education.
More about River Classroom. 5 hours Watershed Discovery Days During this multi-visit program, an NRWA scientist engages students in the following experiential programs: River Creatures, Nonpoint Source Pollution and the Nashua River Watershed, and Schoolyard Ecology. These outdoor and indoor science activities provide a hands-on opportunity for students to explore intricate watershed ecosystems and learn ways to protect their local environment.
3 one-hour visits Important Information for Teachers and Group Leaders Our programs involve hands-on activities, and many are held outside on the banks of the Nashua River. The NRWA recommends that groups have a chaperone ratio of 4 to 6 students to each adult. Adequate chaperone coverage is critical to ensure a safe educational experience. When visiting, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy, waterproof footwear. It's helpful to bring extra socks, shoes, and additional layers of clothing. All programs are offered year-round unless listed otherwise. After the dates have been scheduled, you will receive a confirmation packet with the information about your specific program. If you need more information, we can set up a meeting to discuss what programs best suit your curriculum and interests. You can make reservations by contacting NRWA Environmental Education Director Mary Marro or River Classroom Director Stacey Chilcoat at 978-448-0299.
