Discover your own local water body using scientific technique and hands-on exploration. Students become scientists and participate in biological, chemical and/or physical surveys of the water resources at the school or other site. Activities include collecting and identifying aquatic insects, chemical water testing, and shoreline surveys. 1.5 hours River Creatures in the Classroom We will bring live aquatic insects to your class for a hands-on identification workshop. The experience culminates in a lively discussion about river ecology, habitats, and the important relationship between the water's quality and the insects that live there. 1 hour Nonpoint Source Pollution and the Nashua River Watershed Students will manipulate a physical watershed model and discover how nonpoint source pollution - polluted runoff - affects waterways in the Nashua River watershed. We will discuss watershed protection methods and create individual watershed models using a variety of interesting materials. 1 hour Schoolyard Ecology Discover the intricate ecosystems in your own backyard! Students explore their schoolyard or local environment as an outdoor classroom using a variety of hands-on activities.
