NRWA Public Programs on Land Protection/Stewardship

Every year the NRWA presents dozens of programs that are open to the public, most of which are free of charge, and many of which focus on topics related to land protection and land stewardship. 2008 Land Protection/Stewardship Presentations

Upstream on the Nashua: Wachusett Mountain State Reservation with Doug Williams on the unique plants, animals, and natural features of Wachusett Mountain.

Owls of New England with Tom Wansleben on native owl species and their need for extensive forest habitat. Funded by a Pepperell Cultural Council grant.*

Teaming with Beetles to Control Purple Loosestrife- Beetle Raising Workshop training to raise "Galerucella" beetles for biological control of invasive purple loosestrife.

Native American Storytelling, Songs, and Dance with Loril MoonDream, Peter White Fox, and Barbara Giammarino to learn about Native American traditional values of living in balance and harmony with nature. Funded by an Ashby Cultural Council grant.*

Defining and Preserving the Rural Character of New England with Robert L. Ryan, PhD on managing new development to preserve our rural landscapes. Funded by a Groton Cultural Council grant.*

How and What to Eat: Kids and Schools with Chef Paul Correnty on improving school lunch programs through use of local farm products, supporting local agriculture. Funded by a Lunenburg Cultural Council grant.*

Radial Simplicity with Jim Merkel on reducing one's carbon footprint in order to create a sustainable community. Funded by a Leominster Cultural Council grant.*

The Role of Wilderness in Land Conservation on the value of true wilderness as part of land conservation planning. Panel of presenters including: Rob Warren, Director of Land Protection for the MA Chapter of The Nature Conservancy; James Nordgren, Executive Director at Northeast Wilderness Trust; and Bill Labich, Regional Conservationst at Highstead.
