Are you interested in conducting watershed education activities with your students? If so, the education staff of the NRWA is available to provide teacher training workshops at your school or at the River Resource Center.
The following workshops are available throughout the school year upon request:
| Program | Description | Duration and Level |
| What is a Watershed | Focuses on the dynamics of watersheds. Includes slide show about the history of the Nashua River, current threats to water quality, and hands-on activities about the Nashua River. | Workshop lasts approximately 1.5 hours. For teachers of grades 3-6. |
| Shoreline Surveys: Determining Water Quality with Visual Assessment Techniques | Learn to use field observation techniques to assess waterways for water quality, habitat, and riparian corridor conditions. Data collected by your class during a shoreline survey can be used to develop an action plan for the waterway and can help develop further studies. | Workshop takes place in the field and lasts 2 hours. Appropriate for teachers of grades 5-12. |
| The Schoolyard as a Learning Laboratory | A variety of environmental science studies and activities that teachers can use with students outside in the schoolyard. Activities include Schoolyard Biodiversity, Tree and Plant Identification, Identifying, Mapping, and Evaluating Schoolyard Habitat Types | Workshop lasts approximately 2 hours and takes place outside. Suitable for teachers in grades 3-8. |
| Aquatic Insects | NRWA staff present techniques for collecting, identifying, and analyzing aquatic insects as indicators of water quality. Information about the insects' habitat and life history are also discussed. | Workshop is 2.5 hours and suitable for teachers of grades 3-12. |
| River Classroom | Designed to help teachers prepare for participation in the River Classroom program with their students. Taught by River Classroom staff, workshop involves curriculum brainstorming and development, aquatic insect investigations, and a canoeing trip where teachers have an opportunity to experience the River Classroom program before the planned field trip. | Workshop is 4 hours and suitable for teachers of grades 4-12. |
