Overall Question:  In the Squannacook-Nissitissit combined sub-basin, what are the primary threats to the quality and quantity of drinking water resources, what actions are being carried out to protect those resources, and what additional actions are needed to ensure there will be adequate supplies of drinking water in the future.

 

To help answer that questions, 5 or 6 guest panelists will address the following topics:

 

Panelists (brief, 5-10 minute summary)

 

Doug Heath (Hydrogeologist, USEPA New England Office/confirmed):  What is the general relationship between ground water and surface water in the sub-basin, and how might that factor into drinking water protection.

 

Jennifer Palmiotto (Source Water Protection Specialist for Northeast Rural Water Association/confirmed):  What are the issues that water suppliers face when trying to protect their drinking water sources.

 

Sarah Pillsbury (Manager of NH State Source Water Program, NHDES/confirmed):  How can the NH source water assessment program be used to identify threats to drinking water and what assistance (technical, regulatory, and financial) is available from the NHDES to local communities and water suppliers for source water protection.

 

Nick Anastas (Manager of MA State Source Water Program, MADEP/confirmed):  How can the MA source water assessment program be used to identify threats to drinking water and what assistance (technical, regulatory, and financial) is available from the MADEP to local communities and water suppliers for source water protection.

 

Warren Kimball (Scientist, MA DEP):  What are the primary threats to surface water quality and quantity identified through the Nashua River water quality assessment report and how might local communities and organizations use to the water quality assessment and TMDL process to protect drinking water resources in the combined sub-basin.

 

General discussion ( 60 -90 minutes)

 

Local board members, water suppliers, and selected water-resource experts have been invited to the round-table to assist the Nashua Source Water Stewardship Project with answering the following questions:

 

  1. What are the primary threats to the quality and quantity of drinking water resources;

 

  1. What actions are being carried out to protect those resources; and

 

  1. What additional actions are needed ensure there will be adequate supplies of drinking water in the future
