Environmental Education: Connecting People with Nature

We know that when people understand and form a connection with our natural world, they will work to protect it. This connection forms at an early age, making it essential for young people to spend time in nature. These opportunities need to be available to all, inspiring our next generation of environmental advocates.

Exploration in natural surroundings is invaluable for adults as well, as it offers multiple health benefits. A walk in the forest can calm nerves, ease anxiety, and create a sense of well-being.

The NRWA provides science-based, hands-on environmental education for adults and youth in communities throughout the watershed. Whenever possible, programs are offered in local outdoor spaces to allow for observation and interaction in the natural environment. The impact of these programs can last a lifetime.

River Classroom®

Our signature on-water adventure for school students exploring river ecosystems by canoe and through streamside science studies.

Scientist-in-Residence

A series of workshops led by NRWA educators in the classroom, schoolyard, or nearby open space with science-based lessons tailored to meet the requirements of Massachusetts and New Hampshire standards for science and technology.

Eco-Adventures

Outdoor explorations for youth, families, and adults presented as after school, vacation or weekend programs, weekday walks, or youth group presentations, i.e. scouts or homeschoolers.

Lifelong Learning

Walks, workshops, and lectures providing the most current science presented by leaders in the fields of natural resource protection, land management and stewardship, water science and river restoration, climate resilience, wildlife biology, and other fields relevant to our mission.
