The Nashua River Watershed Association is excited to offer the North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative (NAACC) Non-Tidal Stream Crossing Certification Training in the Nashua River watershed this September!
Three free training sessions are scheduled for September 18, 19, and 22, with September 25 reserved as a rain date. Trainings will take place in Ashby and Shirley, MA. Space is limited to 10 participants. Priority will be given to conservation commission members, departments of public works, watershed organizations, and state employees. If space allows, we will also include NRWA volunteers, and then other interested individuals.
Participants will learn how to evaluate culverts and bridges for their ability to pass water and wildlife for the purposes of maintaining healthy ecosystems, preventing flooding, and ensuring habitat connectivity. Those who successfully complete the training will receive NAACC certification and will be able to independently assess stream crossings and enter data into the NAACC database. These assessments can help your community prioritize and seek funding for replacement projects.
The full certification process includes:
- 4 hours of online training with a quiz component
- At least two full days of field training and shadowing
- 30-minute online session led by NRWA Coordinators on entering data into the NAACC database
