Goal for Youth, Parents, and Teachers section of this Plan
The goal for this section of the Plan is to find ways to help young people understand science concepts that are related to climate change and Nature-based Solutions (NbS). The material here is most appropriate for elementary school aged children. It’s important for young people to have a science-based understanding of our natural world, as well as to the knowledge that positive actions can be taken to make our communities more climate resilient.
How to use this Plan section
Teachers are encouraged to read about the NRWA’s classroom program that introduces climate change and NbS topics that can be tailored to school curriculum requirements. The NRWA is happy to have a conversation with you about this and other programs we can offer for your students.
Both teachers and parents may find simple experiments to try at home or in the classroom on our Activities and Experiments page. Additionally, the Backyards and Neighborhoods section of the Plan offers ideas for NbS that can be implemented in those spaces. The ideas range from easy– a pollinator plant on your porch– to more complicated– creating a neighborhood greenspace.
